Paymerang is Thankful for the Opportunity to Volunteer at FeedMore

This year has been exceptionally unpredictable and uncertain – which is why we are extremely grateful for the opportunity our team had to take some time to give back and support our community by volunteering at Feed More.

For the past three years, our team has regularly participated in Feed More’s backpack program. It’s always a positive and uplifting experience and this time was no exception.

Feed More’s programs are dedicated to providing healthy meals and hope for a better tomorrow to Central Virginians who face hunger.

With the support of the community, their programs distribute nutritious meals and wholesome food to our neighbors who need it most. With one in eight Central Virginians struggling with hunger, Feed More’s programs aim to help our neighbors when they need a hand up.

According to Feed More, there is a large need in Central Virginia – 1 in 8 Central Virginians is food insecure, meaning that more than 193,000 of our neighbors are not receiving the necessary nutrition. And of that, more than 47,000 children, or 1 in 7, in Central Virginia do not know when or from where they will receive their next meal.

These are our neighbors who are working one or more jobs and are barely scraping enough together to get by each month. These are our neighbors who are living paycheck to paycheck when an unexpected medical expense or car trouble takes them down, depleting what little savings they have. These are our neighbors who are forced to make tough choices each month between basic necessities – pay the electricity bill or buy healthy groceries for well-balanced meals for themselves and their families.

The face of hunger has shifted dramatically during the last decade. Many Virginian’s are familiar with their programs that feed homebound seniors, but today hunger is farther-reaching and more recognizable than that and Paymerang is grateful for the opportunity to lend a hand and help those in need in our community.

Paymerang Volunteers at Shalom Farms

Paymerang partnered with Shalom Farms to help provide healthy food options to Richmond communities in need. Our team spent hours on the farm cutting vines, digging through soil, and sorting sweet potatoes for distribution.

Through this work, our team embodied our core values: integrity –our ethical standards led us to provide good beyond our business operations; passion and positivity – the excitement to support our local community was palpable by the team; and teamwork – we could not have harvested hundreds of pounds of sweet potatoes alone! We are excited to continue to embody our values through service with another volunteer adventure soon.

Shalom Farms is a local non-profit that operates two small farms to grow and supply food for Richmond area communities in USDA Food Desserts.

Paymerang Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity Chesterfield ReStore

Our team volunteered at the new Habitat for Humanity Chesterfield ReStore. Locations like this one help fund the building of affordable housing across the Greater Richmond area. We were able to help organize the store, sort donations for sale, assist in accepting donated items. Most importantly, we loved giving back to our community!

The Habitat ReStore is a retail outlet offering building and home improvement supplies for sale to the general public at greatly reduced prices. The new, gently used, and salvaged supplies are donated by individuals, contractors, and suppliers. Every purchase made at Chesterfield’s new ReStore supports the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes for members of the community.

Since its inception, Habitat has helped build over 400,000 homes for more than 2 million people around the world.

The Richmond Habitat chapter joined the affordable housing effort in 1986. Since then, they’ve built more than 300 homes for deserving families. Along with their partner families, generous volunteers, and donors, they have restored the hope and dignity that poverty housing often strips away. Paymerang is proud to be a part of their mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
