Paymerang Boosts Efficiency and Profitability for Regulated Water Utility

Accounts Payable is busier now than ever. AP leaders are eager to improve operational efficiency and ensure vendors get paid on time. We partnered with California Water Service to help their team increase efficiency and profitability.

California Water Service (Cal Water) is the largest regulated American water utility west of the Mississippi River and the third largest in the country. Formed in 1926, the San Jose based company serves almost 500,000 customers connections through 28 customer and operation centers throughout the state.

Their team partnered with Paymerang with the goal of moving hundreds of millions of dollars in AP spend from paper checks to electronic payments, and the Paymerang team delivered. Our team was able to implement an automated payment solution in less than 30 days, and Cal Water’s AP payments went from 100% paper checks to 92% electronic payments.

Instead of costing money to print, stuff, sign, mail and reconcile paper checks, electronic payments have generated over $1,000,000 in rebates for Cal Water in five years.

“We transitioned from tedious payment processing tasks to a more efficient process that saves our team thousands of hours each year, and the icing on the cake has been the rebates” -Tina Ding, Accounts Payable Supervisor

In addition to the cost savings, Paymerang helped Cal Water save over 2,500 hours by automating their payments. Their AP staff has time for more value-added activities that better serve the mission of the team and organization.
